Aihucha News, September 1: The Office for National Statistics has significantly raised its estimate of the size of the UK economy in 2021, indicating that the UK's recovery from the epidemic may be closer to that of other major countries than previously thought. The UK economy grew by 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared with the same period in 2019, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Friday, compared with a previous estimate of a 1.2% decline. GDP growth in 2021 was revised up by 1.1 percentage points to 8.7%, while the recession caused by the epidemic in 2020 was revised down from 11% to 10.4%. The ONS estimated in its last set of quarterly growth data that the UK economy still shrank 0.2% in the three months to the end of June compared with the fourth quarter of 2019, putting the UK's recovery from the epidemic at the bottom of the G7. However, if the upward revision to the size of the economy is reflected in the latest figures, it would put Britain's recovery well ahead of Germany's and behind France and Italy.
