Aihucha, August 30: According to CNN, the British government has postponed health and safety inspections of food imports from the EU for the fifth time, fearing that additional controls will push up food prices and disrupt important supplies. This shows that the UK is still grappling with the painful consequences of leaving the EU, which has increased costs for British businesses and put pressure on trade, investment and ultimately economic growth. Brexit has led to particularly high inflation in the UK as it introduces friction into the country's most important trading relationship and hits the value of the pound, making imports more expensive. A recent study by the London School of Economics found that Brexit has caused around a third of UK food prices to rise since 2019, adding almost £7 billion ($8.8 billion) to the UK grocery bill.
