OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati's Twitter account has recently been hacked, promoting a scam called cryptocurrency airdrop. The fraudulent tweet was posted for an hour and has now been deleted.

Murati's Twitter account has posted a hypothetical phishing link, which is a scam that mimics the popular OpenAI product ChatGPT. In addition, the post also promises to air drop the token OPENAI, which is said to be ERC-20.

Murati is a verified Twitter user with over 126200 followers on the platform. The fraudulent posts in her account were viewed 79600 times and forwarded 83 times before being deleted. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the scam has any victims.

The fraudster is very cunning and can restrict Murati's account from commenting on fraudulent posts, thereby preventing the community from pointing out that this is a scam. However, many well-known Twitter users marked this tweet as a scam and warned the community not to be deceived.

The fraudulent website shared in the tweet is a complex replica of OpenAI website, with the same layout and design, almost without any difference. The only adjustment is in the prompt for connecting to the encrypted wallet.

According to blockchain security company Beosin, its researchers had conversations with Cointelgraph and fraudsters used an encrypted wallet emptying tool that, once the request is signed, can empty irreplaceable tokens (NFTs) and ERC-20 tokens from the victim's wallet.

Although it has not been proven how Twitter accounts of technical figures like Murati were hacked, some have pointed out that she is a victim of SIM card exchange hackers.

Murati is not the first technical expert whose Twitter account was hacked by an attacker. In mid-2020, several American politicians and business people's Twitter accounts were hacked to promote cryptocurrency fraud. The victims include Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Kanye West, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk, who currently owns and leads Twitter. All of their accounts require cryptocurrency and promise to double the amount.

Last month, a 23-year-old British man pleaded guilty in a New York court on charges of aiding in planning a high-profile Twitter account hacking attack. He was extradited from Spain to the United States in April.
